August notes from the Roleystone organic growers...

Hi Everyone,

Another great talk and lesson from Chris! We all will be able to Ph test, know the type of particles that should make up good organic soil ( he's a sweetie sticking to the organics!) and be able to home test the rate of absorption of our soils, etc . I learned a new word-adsorption (The process by which molecules of a substance, such as a gas or a liquid, collect on the surface of another substance, such as a solid. The molecules are attracted to the surface but do not enter the solid's minute spaces as in absorption. We don't want adsorption!) if you would like to contact Chris for a property visit, his contact is as 9397-5686 or
0422 521 434

Thanks to everyone who helped at the meeting-it was really appreciated. My foot should be a lot better next month!!

For those that are OGAWA members-membership cards will be sent in the coming weeks, as they are combining the mailout with other info.

Many thanks to Violeta for the free raffle donation of some yummy items from her new shop in Pioneer Village. If you haven't had a look at the shop, it is really worth a look in! Have a look at her website http://www.violetasgarden.net.au/ or ph 9399 9747. Her hours are T-Th-Fri 8:30-5pm Sat -Sun 10-5pm Closed Mon and Wed.

If you want the Protector Gripper Gloves I showed at the meeting for a cheaper price ($7) than the garden centres or hardware stores see Andrew at Mower World cnr of Gillam and Railway Ave in Kelmscott and tell him Lisa sent you ( It has to be Andrew!! and you have to mention my name) ( see this webpage to view the gloves http://www.ilcaustralia.org/home/search4.asp?state=SA&page=11&MC=12&MinC=49 if you weren't at the meeting)

Peter showed a brochure on a Rainwater tank filter last night that looked really good. For more info have a look at: http://www.rainfilltanks.com.au/waterfilter.asp

Have a look at our online calendar for what to plant and other events: http://ogawa.roley.net

If anyone wants sweet potato runners please contact Richard 9390 9109.

Keep a lookout for Great Garden workshops http://www.greatgardens.info/. Here is an Early Bird Notification:

Synergy Energy Efficiency Workshop - Gosnells Tuesday 2nd September 6.30pm-9.30pm

The Fremantle OGA group are having 4 garden visits in Sept 13th from 10-4pm. Each garden is different and displays sustainable principles. Bookings are essential. A brochure is attached.

Next Month Arthur Brown from Zeowest is coming to talk about Spongolite and Zeolite. Zeolite is an amazing natural mineral because of its extraordinary ability to absorb, hold, release, and exchange different chemicals, nutrients, toxins and ions according to need and it has a variety of agriculture, aquaculture, etc uses.
.

Until Next Month,
Lisa

Break ins

Just quick note to Bedfordale residents, I noticed on page 4 of The Comment News there was a report of a break in on Wallangarra Dr. We don't usually get much crime up this way so it's probably worth keeping your eyes open if you see anything unusual.
